With eyes fear-stricken
She sat down
contemplating my cup
turned upside-down

"have no tears ,my son "said she
for sure love is your destiny "

"Death ,my son ,for the beloved's sake
is life in Martyrdom's wake "

So many a time did I divine
yet never saw a cup like thine

So many a time did I divine
yet never knew a grief like thine

It's your eternal fate to wade
in the love sea
never setting a sail
and your life shall ever be
a tearful tale
It's your eternal fate
to be caught
between the sea and the seething fire
in whose consuming gyre,
for all the wind ,the gales and the mire
love shall remain the finest attire!

Onto thy life ,my son ,there shalt be a woman
whose eyes are a paragon
of His artistry ;
lips grapes clustered on a tapestry
whose laughs are fragrant roses
and the unruly hair
goes everywhere
a woman whereto thy heart led thee
and all the world shalt she be

Yet there is a cloudy sky
and a road befogged
and your love does lie
in a guarded fort
he who comes nearby
he who asks for her hand
or her plaits darest untie ,
my son ,is lost.

My son ,thou shalt ransack the world for her lustre
about her shall ask the sea and the bay
through seas and seas her image seek after
and your gloom will branch away

and after the prime of life is gone
thou shalt come to ken
it is a mirage you were after
for your love ,my son
does in nowhere reside
how difficult it is ,then
to love a woman
of that kind !
